God's Preferences
"God must love dark-eyed, dark-haired girls... he made so many of them."
-- My Dad
"God must love desolation... he made enough of it."
-- Me.
What convinces me that there is a God is not how much beauty there is in the world. It's that He made creatures that could appreciate that beauty. Does the rock appreciate the majesty of the mountain? Or the blade of grass the oak tree? Perhaps not... but He put a fire in us that lets us appreciate the beauty and majesty of the rest of His creations. And he made us long to be a part of that beauty, something that is (or should be) readily apparent in the world around us. We draw no closer to Him than when we recognize that beauty and strive to emulate it.
